OUR MISSION CONTINUES....

Writer: Pam SteelPam Steel

Although we are missing our volunteer's gathering and sacking food this semester, we want you all to know that our mission of providing a weekend food sack to children in need continues.

As many of you know, Food2Kids Big Spring generally purchases all the food for our program from the West Texas Food Bank and we gather at the Lakeview School Gym and prepare weekend food sacks that are delivered to our local elementary schools and placed in student backpacks for children who may not eat a regular meal between the school-provided lunch on Fridays and the school-provided breakfast on Monday morning.

Because of COVID-19 we are limited this semester to purchasing pre-sacked food sacks from the West Texas Food Bank in lieu of gathering volunteers during this uncertain time and preparing the food sacks ourselves.

We are happy to announce that our first set of weekend food sacks were delivered September 30th to the five campuses we serve in Big Spring (Kentwood, Marcy, Moss, Goliad and Big Spring Intermediate).

We hope to be back to our normal operations of gathering volunteers and preparing the food sacks ourselves as soon as possible - but we don't know when that will be. The GOOD NEWS is the children are still being served and our mission of feeding children continues on.

The cost of food sacks has increased to $6.00/sack. If you would like to donate to this mission that helps local children of Big Spring you can mail a donation to:
