November Food Sacks

Writer: Pam SteelPam Steel

Food 2 Kids Big Spring continues our mission to identify and provide food to children who do not eat between the school-provided lunch at their campus on Fridays and the school-provided breakfast at their campus Monday morning. We are currently serving 324 students each week at the five Big Spring ISD campuses we serve (Kentwood, Marcy, Moss, Goliad, and Big Spring Intermediate).

With Thanksgiving coming and students being away from school the schools will be sending home an additional Food 2 Kids food sack to ensure these students don't miss their weekend food sack during the Thanksgiving holiday.

We certainly miss gathering two days per month with community volunteers in Big Spring to prepare these weekend food sacks but we are thankful the West Texas Food Bank found a way to deliver pre-sacked weekend food sacks during this uncertain time of rising COVID-19 cases in our area.

At the beginning of the pandemic, it was estimated that one in five children were food insecure and now that number is one in three children are food insecure. It's important to know how our community can help our children have the food they need to learn and grow.

If you would like to donate to Food 2 Kids Big Spring, each weekend food sack that we send home with the students we serve is $6.00/sack. Your donations can be mailed to Food 2 Kids Big Spring, P.O. Box 1641, Big Spring, TX 79721, or contact Pam Steel at 432-935-0713.

Every donation Food 2 Kids Big Spring receives is used to serve the children of Big Spring.
