Food 2 Kids Big Spring is currently serving 355 students across five different Big Spring ISD campuses (Moss, Marcy, Goliad, Kentwood and Big Spring Intermediate).
We continue to purchase pre-sacked food bags from the West Texas Food Bank and the food bank delivers the food sacks to each school for us. The weekend food sacks are sent home every Friday during the school year with the children that have been identified as possibly living in a food-insecure household. With Christmas break coming up the children will be sent home with two sacks before they leave on break.
Each food sack costs $6.00 and contains kid-friendly non-perishable food items such as one shelf-stable milk, 2 juice boxes, 1 can tuna salad, one can lasagna, one can beef stew, a beef stick, 2 cereals, 1 applesauce, and one mixed fruit cup.
