Back to School

Writer: Pam SteelPam Steel

Food 2 Kids participated in the "Head to Toe" back-to-school event on August 12th at Ryan Hall. We gave out over 300 food sacks to children attending the event. With each food sack, we included a note that explains the Food 2 Kids program and how it works during the school year. The purpose of the note was to let the parents know how the Food 2 Kids program works during the school year and how their child can receive a weekend food sack from Food 2 Kids every Friday.

We want to help families that may be living with food insecurity. We provide a food sack that contains four meals for elementary-age students over the weekend while they are away from school. Many children in our community depend on the breakfast and lunch they receive at school Monday through Friday but may not have access to food on the weekends. Our food sacks are placed in the student's backpacks before they leave school for the weekend and this ensures they have nutrition to help them as they grow.

This school year we are serving seven campuses. We are excited to announce that we are expanding our mission to Coahoma Elementary and Forsan Elementary this year. And we will continue to serve Kentwood Early Childhood Center, Moss Elementary, Marcy Elementary, Goliad Elementary, and Big Spring Intermediate.

If you know a child in need of a weekend food sack, please contact us
