Big Spring ISD distributed 10,633 Food 2 Kids weekend food sacks across five campuses during the 2021-2022 school year. We are thankful for the teachers and administrators at these five campuses (Kentwood, Marcy, Moss, Goliad and Big Spring Intermediate) that take the time each week during the busy school year to see that a weekend food sack goes home with a child that may need food between the school provided lunch on Friday and the school provided breakfast on Monday morning. Many children live with food insecurity and don't have access to a regular meal when they are away from school.
Food 2 Kids Big Spring is grateful for the community support we have received through grants and donations so that we can purchase food sacks for children in need in our community. This past school year each food sack contained four meals for an elementary-age child including three sources of protein ( example: a small can of ravioli or beef and mac), two fruit cups, two juice boxes, and two packages of cereal. These food items are nonperishable but nutritious. The cost of each food sack is $6.00 - $6.15.
Food 2 Kids Big Spring will continue distributing food sacks to children throughout the summer by working with Loredo Hills Apartments, Limestone Ridge Apartments, Park Village Apartments, Howard County Resource Center, and the First Love Mission Center. We are looking forward to getting our summer feeding program kicked off so that we can continue this most important mission of helping hungry children.
